A Day in the Life of an AR Caller

A lot of freshers walk into AR calling, thinking it’s just a job where you make calls all day. That’s only part of it.

Your day usually begins by logging into your systems and checking the accounts assigned to you. This is where you plan your work, what needs to be picked up first, which claims are pending, and where follow-up is required.

Once that’s done, the calling starts.

You reach out to insurance companies to check claim status. Some calls are simple; you get the update, note it down, and move to the next account. But not every call is like that. Sometimes you’ll be on hold for a long time. Sometimes the call gets transferred. And sometimes, you need to ask the right questions to understand what’s actually going on with the claim.

The job isn’t just about asking for updates. You’re expected to understand the reason behind denials, figure out what needs to be corrected, and clearly document the next steps.

Between calls, you’ll update notes, track each account, and make sure nothing slips through. A lot of the work is in follow-ups. Many claims don’t get resolved in one go, so staying on top of them is important.

There will also be situations where things don’t move despite multiple attempts. That’s when you escalate the issue so it can be handled at the next level.

What Really Matters in This Role

What really matters in this role is how you handle the work. You need to listen properly, speak clearly and professionally, and stay patient—even on tough days when calls don’t go as planned.

Learning Curve

At the start, it can feel like a lot. New systems, new terms, and a completely new way of working.

But over time, you get used to it. You start understanding how things work, handle calls better, and manage your day with more confidence.

Final Thought

It’s not the easiest role to begin with. But it teaches you how to communicate, stay organised, and solve problems—skills that help you grow in the long run.
